BERRY GORDY
Berry Gordy is a prominent personality in the record label industry. As the founder of the popular Motown record label and its subsidiaries, he played an important role in the making of superstar singers and bands such as Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, Michael Jackson, and many others. Motown also became the highest-earning record label that capitalized on African-American talents. He took pride in producing the greatest R&B hits from the 1960s to 1970s.
For this business, Gordy was able to increase his worth to almost half a billion dollars. The record executive and producer now has a $400 million net worth and is still an active personality. Gordy’s success did not come overnight. He dropped out of high school to pursue a featherweight boxing career. He then realized that his love was in music. With some careful investment planning, Gordy put up a record store and produced music he wrote himself. Since then, the rest was history.
