JUNE KENNEY

June Kenney gained experience by starting out as a singer and dancer, but it was by appearing in their local radio that she gained the attention of talent scouts. She later signed with Warner Bros. and appeared in several musical shorts. Her first television credit was a supporting role on the TV series Public Defender in 1954. Kenney’s most famous role came a few years later when she portrayed Barbara Bonney, a good girl falsely accused of a crime, in the 1957 noir film Teenage Doll.

Her petite stature and innocent looks contributed to her getting typecast as the ‘screaming girl’ in horror movies. She even took a break from acting and contemplated whether she would go back to it or not. In 1962, she decided to retire from the industry completely due to her dissatisfaction with the roles being offered to her.
