MAMIE VAN DOREN
Mamie Van Doren is a multi-talented woman who has dabbled in different sections of the entertainment industry such as acting, singing, and modeling. Her breakout role was in 1957, when she became the first female actor to sing rock n’ roll in an American film as Penny Low in Untamed Youth. She had that rebellious aura that made her performance feel authentically punk. After she was crowned Miss Palm Springs, she was discovered by Howard Hughes, who placed her in several films by the now-defunct production company RKO Pictures.
After almost two decades since her acting career began, she stopped taking on film roles, hired a moving company, and left Hollywood for Newport Beach. She released an autobiography back in 1987 called Playing the Field, which made headlines and drew the most public attention to her in over two decades. Along with her husband of more than 40 years, Thomas Dixon, Van Doren manages a website wherein she sells her merchandise and home-made short films.
